Heavy oil concept: Crude oil is the residue left after the fractional distillation of gasoline, kerosene, and diesel. Sometimes this residue is further reduced pressure distillation to extract the remaining oil after the lubricating oil is also called heavy oil. There are many combustible components in heavy oil, with carbon content of 86% to 89% and hydrogen content of 10% to 12%; the remaining components are few in nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. The calorific value of heavy oil is very high, generally 40000~42000kJ/kg. It has high combustion temperature and strong flame radiation ability, and is a high-quality fuel for steel production.
For heavy oil burner fuel, in addition to high calorific value, it also requires:
(1) Low viscosity. In order to facilitate pipeline transportation, it is conducive to spray atomization to improve combustion efficiency. Heavy oil has a high viscosity due to the large amount of paraffin. It needs to be preheated during use to reach 100°C or above to reduce the viscosity.
(2) The freezing point should be low. Generally, the solidification temperature of heavy oil is 22~36℃. For heavy oil with a large amount of paraffin and a high freezing point, appropriate heating measures should be taken to facilitate transportation and handling.
(3) The flash point temperature is high. A higher preheating temperature can be used to facilitate transportation and atomization. Generally, the flash point of heavy oil is 180~330℃, which is higher than the temperature that needs to be preheated.
(4) The mechanical impurities and water content in the oil should be less. Many impurities and high water content not only reduce the calorific value of the heavy oil, but also cause blockage of the heavy oil burner and flame fluctuations during use, so it needs to be filtered. If the oil and water are formed into an emulsion, the combustion effect can be improved.
(5) The sulfur content should be low. The general sulfur content is 0.15%~0.30%, but there are also a few heavy oils with sulfur content as high as 2%, which may cause adverse consequences during use.
