In a gas producer, coal moves from top to bottom, while gasification agent moves from bottom to top. Coal and gasification agent move in the reverse direction and separate into layers for physical and chemical reaction. We call this process gasification. The reaction process is divided into 5 levels.

1. Ash layer

The ash layer is above the grate, which is the residue after coal gasification, and the height is 150~250mm above the grate. Its functions are: (1) As the ash settles from the oxide layer and the temperature is relatively high, when the gasification agent passes through the ash layer, it performs cold and heat exchange, and the gasification agent is preheated to above 200 , which is the heat of the oxide layer. The chemical reaction brings superior conditions and accelerates combustion; (2) As the ash layer is cooled by the gasification agent, it protects the grate. (3) The ash and slag are loosely distributed on the grate, and the gasification agent can redistribute the air flow evenly when passing through the ash and slag layer.

2 oxide layer

The oxide layer is also called the combustion layer. The oxide layer is on the top of the ash layer. In this layer, the oxygen and carbon in the blower undergo an oxidation reaction to fully burn to generate a large amount of carbon dioxide and generate a large amount of heat. The thermochemical reactions of gas rely on this to provide heat.

3 reduction layer

The reducing layer is the area where coal gas is generated. After the carbon dioxide gas produced by the oxide layer rises to the reducing layer: (1) Endothermic chemical reaction with hot carbon to generate carbon monoxide, (2) Endothermic chemical reaction between water vapor and hot carbon , Produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen, (3) carbon monoxide reacts with excess water vapor to produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen, and at the same time emit heat to raise the temperature in the gas furnace.

4 dry distillation layer

The dry distillation layer is located above the reducing layer. The volatile matter and other dry distillation products (CH4, CmHn) from coal will become coke at a temperature of 400~550. The coke is transferred from the dry distillation layer to the reducing layer for chemical reaction.

5 dry layer

The drying layer is the uppermost layer of the material layer, where the moisture of the raw coal is evaporated to prepare the raw material for the dry distillation of the next layer.
